Camp Dakota, ASMC's summer day program for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, has been awarded $2,600 in scholarship funding through a local group dedicated to chivalry and community service. The Knightly Order of the Fiat Lux is a fraternal non-profit organization that serves children with special needs in the greater Piedmont region through community grants. It is a secular order descended from an ancient ecclesiastical order of knights. During the year, members participate in fundraising activities by participating in medieval style events and living history demonstrations. Through these presentations, Fiat Lux members seek to educate the public about the reality a of a knight’s life in medieval times and the principals which guided his actions. ASMC is honored to have received one of the Fiat Lux Community Grants for 2010. Through this funding, four children will be able to attend a full two-week session at Camp Dakota. In addition, the campers and staff will get a chance to meet members of the Fiat Lux during a living history demonstration at Freedom Park. |
